"I can't go back to yesterday because I was a different person then."

- Alice in Wonderland

"Raw, defiant and triumphant, Lisa Bennington-Love’s
new introspective poetry collection, Paper Monsters,
interrogates pain and tendencies toward self-harm, digs
into their sources, and pulls out the roots of the poison
tree of organized religion and patriarchal power,
dismantling them, while demonstrating resilience and a
way of successfully reclaiming personal power in
league with the moon. A vital volume!"

—John Burroughs, U.S. Beat Poet Laureate 2022-2023

New Release!

Lisa Bennington-Love, formerly known as Lisa Vicious, is
a confessional poet and artist from Detroit. Her work
fearlessly explores themes of abuse, addiction, and
domestic violence, drawing from personal experiences to
shed light on these often-taboo subjects. With a dark, wry
sense of humor, Lisa’s poetry offers raw and unfiltered
glimpses into the human experience, resonating deeply
with readers seeking authenticity.

After nearly 30 years in and around the Detroit music
scene, followed by a 12-year hiatus, Lisa has returned to
her passions. Her published works include:

"Take For Pain As Needed" (2004)

"The Devil in Ms. Vicious" (2008)

"Love Letters and Suicide Notes" (2024)

Lisa's journey from addiction to sobriety is a testament to
her resilience. Now a domestic violence and homeless
advocate, she is affiliated with COE1 Detroit, she dedicates
her time to helping others navigate the darkness she has
endured.

Her work has garnered recognition from fellow poets
including Exene Cervenka, legendary frontwoman of the
punk band X, and Rachel "Rattlesnake" Brooke, the 2023
Ameripolitan Outlaw Country Winner. Brooke has said,
"Lisa is one of those people whose purpose is to burn,
lighting a path for us in the dark."

Through her poetry, art, and advocacy, Lisa continues to
challenge, inspire, and illuminate the shadows with
fearless honesty.

"As an artist (musician), I gravitate to writers
that deal with real topics unfrightened and
unashamed, and how they bring me into their
world. I want to learn and understand worlds
different to mine, different experiences than my
own. Lisa brings you into her world."
